The Measure of Things: typographer Erik Spiekermann designs an edition for unamono
“Men love tools for measuring and working things out. They know how many liters in a gallon, how many inches in a foot, and what that means in centimeters”: So claims Erik Spiekermann, according to Monocle Magazin “the world's most celebrated living typographer”, whose talents have won him an almost cult-like following in design circles and among his over 300.000 followers on twitter. In light of this, it seems only natural that the first line of men’s scarves and pocket squares designed by Erik for unamono would be based on the idea of overlaid systems of measurement: Scales, grids, units and digits are the defining elements of these playful yet minimalist accessories.

Like all of unamono’s scarves and foulards, the designs are based on a short story about the fictional characters Una and Mono. With tongue in cheek and a figurative twinkle in his eye, Spiekermann plays with the clichés of male and female traits. He explains the idea of his design work in an interview for unamono.
