Rhythm is a part of our daily lives. From the language we speak to the footsteps we take, rhythm surrounds us. Award winning contemporary womenswear designer, Reema Al Banna explores the fluid movement of sound and the notion of noise pollution for her Fall/Winter16 collection. Inspired by orchestral music, the collection features a symphony of surreal hand drawn illustrations that include violinists, drums, guitars and trumpets as well as intricately drawn lines to show the waves of sound.
Transforming the familiar into fun has become Reema Al Banna’s forte. For the first time, she experiments with embroidery, which can be seen on her trumpet palazzo pants and guitar string white shirt. Guitar strings are also depicted through her use of fringed detailing on her dresses and tops.
This season, Reema Al Banna also toys with the classic white shirt adding oversized bell sleeves, cutaway and knotted detailing for a fresh versatile look. She fuses avant-garde sensibilities with effortless ease to create editorial-worthy, sculptural shirts designed to flatter.
Reoccurring undertones of connectivity are once again found throughout the Reemami collection. This season, in the form of a repeated plug illustration which has been transformed into a unique, fun print in hues of maroon, blue and black. This everyday, ordinary object connects many of the musical instruments to their power source equally keeping us connected to our digital lives, reminding us of our reliance on consistently being connected.
Staying true to Reemami’s aesthetic, the collection features architectural silhouettes however this season; this is contrasted with loose cuts seen in the silver flares and gold lame pleated skirts. The combination of sharp shapes and metallic fabrics brings a heightened sense of luxury to REEMAMI’s Fall 16 collection.
Reema Al Banna harnesses her artistic prowess to create playful prints with a message. Fusing the signature cuts with luxury hand sketched printed fabrics; REEMAMI’s coveted pieces have gained a global cool-girl following from the likes of Gala Gonzalez and Hanneli Mustaparta.
About Me
Reema Al Banna is the young designer and owner of the UAE-based award winning fashion line Reemami. Launching her 9th collection soon, Reema continues to create new fashion season after season. Reema loves exploring new cuts, new volumes, and new patterns. Reemami sets the boundaries for being the eclectic, bold, and playful fashion brand.
Born and raised in the UAE, Reema began her career as a graphic designer before pursuing her passion for haute couture, she took up a two-year fashion course at the prominent French Fashion University in Dubai, ESMOD, before launching her dream label Reemami in 2009.
A brand for the young and young at heart, Reemami’s ethos are fun, optimism, positivity and creativity. The brand identity is shaped by Reema’s love for creativity, through having unexpected cuts and details, and treating each item as a piece of art. Reema also has a huge passion with experimenting with new cuts and creating new volumes, which give her line its signature style.
The individuality of Reemami has been acknowledged by fashionistas and critics, who have described the brand as ‘a breath of fresh air to Dubai’s fashion scene’. Reema does not follow seasonal trends; instead, she tries to be innovative, which feeds her creativity and allows her to constantly explore new and different styles.
On a positive note, Reema has taken a leap forward in her Resort ‘14 collection by introducing exclusive prints from the artworks produced by talented special-needs artists from The Mawaheb School. In this collection Reema integrates the artist›s versions of the iconic Frida Kahlo in her fabric prints through contemporary cuts and modern aesthetics. A percentage of the proceeds from this collection will be donated to The Mawaheb School to help them support adults with specialneeds.This collection was chosen in 2014 as Best Fashion Collaboration at the Grazia Style Awards.
Not only is Reema Al Banna excelling in Fashion design and graphic design, she also won a Jewelry design competition hosted by Damas, and designed an award winning necklace worth AED 10,000.
Reemami is also active as a socially responsible brand. In 2012 Reemami held its first Compassion Show in support of The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF). Reema also showcased her Fall’14 collection at an event organized to raise awareness for The Mawaheb School for Beautiful People.
ACHEIVEMENTS:
- Reemami was nominated in 2011, 2012 & 2013 as the best regional/local designer at the Grazia Style Awards.
- Reemami was crowned as ‘he Most Creative Designer’ at a fashion show in 2011, which consisted of 9 other regional designers.
- Reemami was also listed among Ahlan’s Best 10 Fashion brands in 2011.
- Reema Al Banna has also been listed in Emirates Woman Magazine among the top 25 faces to know in the UAE in 2012.
- Reema launched her Fall/12/13 collection at her first solo fashion show in April 2012.
- Reemami landed on 2 magazine covers, Arabian Woman and Pose.
- Reema Al Banna, founder of Reemami is seleceted as Fashion Mentor for Samsungs’ Launching People Initiative.
- Reema Al Banna is also Dove’s Middle east ambassador.
- Reemami’s Fall’14 collection was a successful collaboration with special needs artists. This collaboration was awarded by Grazia Style Awards in 2014 as Best Fashion Collaboration.
- Reemami's SS15 collection is reviewed by Style.com/Arabia: "Al Banna secured her position as a contender for the best contemporary ready-to-wear designer in the UAE, thanks to her out of the box(ing) thinking, her concern for patterns, tailoring innovations, and her go-getter attitude.
