Planktonic collection
Planktonic are the small or microscopic organisms that drift or swim in a body of water.
Plankton can come in various shapes and forms, they can be algea, bacteria and even tiny shrimp like animals. Since most of our planet is covered in water, plankton are pretty much the base of the entire global food web.
Photosynthetic plankton supply, according to some estimates, between 50% and 85% of the world's oxygen via photosynthesis. Plankton is so abundant and so important that for some sea creatures, like the blue whale, feed almost exclusively on krill, a type of planktonic crustaceans.
Even though Plankton are so important, their tiny size and ever changing environment makes them hidden from most of us.
As an artist that explores and is inspired by shapes forms and structures, I find intricate beauty in Planktonic life forms and a sense of awe facing their stunning abilities, not impeded by their microscopic size.
As an artist, creating in precious metals, I looked to alloy both science and the craft of contemporary jewelry design, creating my own artistic statement.
We adorn jewelry onto ourselves to present and flash it much like a peacock displays his tail-feathers in a courtship display. I believe that we should pay homage and truly appreciate these delicate creatures and their unexplored beauty. We should be proud and honored to adorn ourselves with a tribute to the worlds tiniest, and perhaps, most gifted talents of nature.
In the making of my art, I incorporate sophisticated 3D modeling, rendering and printing techniques with traditional artisanship. I start by transforming my visual and conceptual inspiration into a sketch. Representing shape, movement, organic structure and symmetry. I later model the work using a 3D software to accurately produce the initial prototype while taking into account the constraints and freedoms this technique allows. The prototype is later transformed via traditional jewelry smith tools and methods into the final artwork. Creating intricate and appealing organic shapes with skill and precision.

About Me

About Haven Design-
Haven design is a jewelry and 3D design studio. The studio specializes in naturally inspired complex jewelry and art. Our goal is to shine a light on the disappearing beauty of the natural world hidden around us, and to raise awareness to the phenomenon of species extinction and loss of biodiversity.
About the designer-
My name is Hagit Abenheimer, I graduate from Bezalel academy of arts and design, in 2010, from the Jewelry Design department. Ever since I started my career as an independent jeweler, I wanted to examine my attitude and notions regarding jewelry in modern times. I decided that I want to tell a story and convey a message through my works, and to send a message of sustainability and conservation of ever disappearing diversity.
In 2009, I started a project whose purpose was to raise awareness to the phenomenon of bee disappearance across the world. In this project, I have created an "evolution" of jewelry. I took the wings of the honeybee and cloned them many times from one copy to the other to mimic the process of genetic copying and cloning. (Common in modern day farming and agriculture) During the process of replicating the wings repeatedly, the wings eventually deteriorated to the point that they disappeared – much like the honeybees themselves.
This project has had a great personal impact on me. I decided I want to create more items inspired by creature on the brink of existence, endangered or just struggling to cope with the never-ending changes occurring to natural habitats. My challenge is to raise awareness and to commemorate extinct or endangered species. My inspirations stem from the complexity and beauty of the hidden natural world all around us.
My jewels are made from sterling silver, 14k gold plated silver, or gold (karat per order). They display complex and sophisticated shapes and design.
My production line specializes in small and unique series of items. Each item is made with attention to detail and personal care. The blending of 3D modeling and traditional metalworking techniques allows me to combine the two skills to create and original complex hand-made piece suited for everyone.
